Budget Grow Room
Being a beginner gardener, I would like to know the easiest and cheapest way to grow a small, yet successful crop indoors. Keep in mind that I am a college student on a tight budget, and I live in an apartment. I have an extra room. Is growing too risky?
The main thing is to keep your garden completely secret and especially do not tell friends! How much do you want to grow? If growing 3-6 plants, you can get by with a 2-4 65w CFL (compact fluorescent lamps). A total of four CFLs provide 260 total watts of light.
Continue adding lamps as plants grow. You can stash the garden in a closet or even in a cabinet. The minimum space should be 90 x 90 x 150 cm. This will give plenty of room for lights, containers and plants to grow. Your best to use a small part of the extra room to set up a grow space. If you can use a closet with a door that closes, cool. Ventilation is the next biggest obstacle. Where will you send the exhaust air. If venting out a window, you will have to make it discrete so that you can not see signs of a grow room from outside the room. You will need a ventilation fan and a circulation fan, 4-12 liter pots, soil, fertilizer (grow and bloom) and a timer for the lights. Of course you will need a few other incidentals such as a good grow book.
To keep your garden secret, you may have to disguise or eliminate the telltale fragrance of cannabis before expelling the air. The buds start smelling about the third week of flowering.
